Addendum: 22nd November 2010

And the winner is…..

Congratulations, Rob. I’ll be in touch about sending your your prize.

And thank you to everyone who entered the draw. Please check back soon for other chances to win!

There’s only a month to go before my first novel-length story is released. And you know what that means, right???

Yep, a giveaway!

If you’d like the chance to win an electronic ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of From The Ashes, all you have to do is answer this question:

Q: How was Asher born?

(Hint: check the blurb below)

Leave your answer in the Comments field of this post, and don’t forget to leave a contact email so I can contact you if you win *VBG*

On November 22nd I’ll draw one random commenter from those who’ve correctly answered the question.

Good luck!

(Red Sage Publishing, December 2010)

Calista’s a freelance space courier recovering from a disastrous marriage during which her ex sold her as a slave. Sure, she’s emotionally damaged, but you should see the state of her ex! She’s also an expert pilot who can illegally reprogram and augment all manner of tech. She’s been ripping off the system and flying under the radar her entire life. Until now.

Asher’s her “cargo”, the mouthwateringly gorgeous Phoenixae alien who accidentally hatched from the egg she was transporting, and bonded with her. He’s been bred as a sex slave and he can read her mind. Which wouldn’t be so bad if 1) she didn’t abhor slavery and everything it represents, 2) she wasn’t horny as hell, and 3) he wasn’t doubly tempting because of his extra er, male parts! Oh, and then there’s the small issue that if Asher is killed and his body burnt, he can be resurrected. He’s one hot commodity that illegals will kill to possess.

Take one sex-deprived space courier who’ll risk everything to save a Phoenixae alien from a life of slavery. Add one mouthwateringly hot alien sex-slave who knows her deepest desires, feels her pain, and lives to please her in every way. Mix with a ruthless ex-husband intent on vengeance. And stir in a sadistic Libertine noble who will do anything at all to get his hands on a Phoenixae.

From the ashes, an unexpected hero will emerge…and he’s full of surprises!

    Hi Maree,

Awesome saucy-sounding concept! Also loving the hot cover. :) And to answer the question – Asher accidentally hatched from an egg Calista was transporting.

    Good luck with your release.

  4. Maree says:

Hey Louise and Jo, thanks for dropping by!

Asher was hatched from an egg, which is a total hoot, Maree. Fabulous blurb, I can’t wait to read more about these two.

  7. Maree says:

Hey, Nay! Hope you like this one as much as the Demons books *bites nails*

Cathy, you should read the bit where Calista says to her heinous ex-husband that she might have scrambled it and eaten it! LOL.

Mmm. Might have to post the excerpt I gave to Red Sage up on my website.

  8. Cass says:

    Hi Maree,

Have just joined the RWA Paranormal group – what fantastic news to start with! (The cover looks very exciting).

Asher hatched from an egg – but he can also be reborn if he is killed and his body is burnt.

Absolutely can’t wait to read it! (And to think I was hunting for good reads a week ago!)

  9. Maree says:

Hi Cass — welcome to RWA Paranormal! They’re a great bunch. And thanks heaps and heaps for stopping by. Good luck in the draw!

  10. ROB HAMOND says:

She was hatched from a egg being transported by Phoenixea

    • Maree says:

Hi Rob! Well, Asher is a “he” but that’s near enough for me *VBG*. Thanks for entering the draw and good luck!

  11. Lisa Ransom says:

Looks a really hot book – oh and he was hatched from the egg she was transporting

    • Maree says:

Lisa — it IS a really hot book *fans herself just thinking about it* I’m doing the whole, ‘Did I really write that??’ thing, LOL. Good luck with the draw!

  12. Sherry S. says:

He accidentally hatched from the egg she was transporting.

  13. Kylie Griffin says:

Asher was hatched from an egg (reminds me of Mork from Ork, although Asher wins hands down in the looks department!).

I love the premise for your story, Maree. Something so intriguing about a sex-slave and pirates. LOL

    • Maree says:

OMG, still laughing at the Mork from Ork allusion, Kylie. Just about spat my coffee on my keyboard *VBG*

Actually, hadn’t thought about the pirate analogy. But that’s exactly what Nate (the heinous ex-hubby) and his crew are. And they’re not the sort you’d like to meet, either. Nate would sell any of his crew off as ‘spare parts’ in a heartbeat. He’s enough to give me nightmares, even though I wrote him! *shudders*

      • Kylie Griffin says:

Sorry about the Mork reference and your near disaster with computer drowned in coffee *grin*, but when I read your blurb that was the first image to come to mind (can you tell I was a Mork fan?).

Man, what a creepy ex Calista has – I hope he gets his comeuppance in the end? Even if he is a great villain to read about, he’s the sort of bloke you really hope gets it by the end of the book. :-)

  14. Maree says:

Na-Nu Na-Nu, Kylie! *VBG* No sorry necessary — I used to love Mork, too. And rest assured that I don’t like to leave loose ends — or evil exes — lying around. Mwah hah hah!

  15. He was hatched from an egg. The story sounds like a lot of fun–pick me! Pick me!

  16. Merrylee Lanehart says:

Asher was hatched from an egg. I loved the excerpt!! Can’t wait to get my hands on this one!!!!

  17. Maree says:

Hi Merrylee — thanks heaps for entering the contest, and for your lovely feedback about my excerpt! Don’t forget to leave me an email or contact details in case my kids draw your name as the winner *VBG*

  18. Tamara Gill says:

    Wow, what a blurb!!

The book looks and promises to be great!
And of course to answer your question, he hatches from an egg.

    Tam :)

PS: Do you know where I can buy one of these eggs? ;)

    • Maree says:

Thanks, Tam! And I’ve searched all over the place, but haven’t yet found an egg like Asher’s…. I live in hope though ;-)

  19. devon says:

Asher was hatched from an egg.

I loved the excerpt and can’t wait to read this one!!!!(Extra male parts – woohoo – it’s like getting two for the price of one :) )

    • Maree says:

Aw, thanks heaps, Devon! I’m always a bit nervous whenever I post an excerpt. What if people think it sucks??? And one like this? Yikes. Way for people to find out I’ve got a potty-mouth

Good luck with the draw! And I hope Asher will live up to your expectations ;-)

  20. Lisa Flaus says:

Oohhhh it sounds fabulous!!! He was hatched from an egg :-) Where can I get hold of an egg? I promise I’ll take really good care of him when he hatches… ;-)

    • Maree says:

Lisa, I reckon all us ladies need an egg with a potential Asher inside. Heck, I’d give my, um, let me think, husband for one! Just kidding, dear ;-)

  21. Joanne Campbell says:

Hatched from an egg? What an excellent solution to the current shortage of obedient males.
