Heart & Craft

August’s reading list isn’t a particularly large one.  Life got in the way. Traveling to the RomAus Brisbane conference got in the way. Revisions, catching up on accounts and paying bills got in the way. What more do I need to say?

And talking about the RomAus conference, I had to seriously rearrange my carry-on luggage to cope with bringing back the bundles of books I scored, including a bunch of ARCs (Advanced Reading Copies). Woot!

Heart & Craft coverOne of my wins was the recently released Heart & Craft by the wonderful Valerie Parv. It’s billed by its publisher as being: “The ultimate ‘how-to’ book on romance writing written by some of the most successful romance writers in the world and edited the undisputed Queen of Romance Fiction, Valerie Parv.”

Ms Parv has bought together a “dream team” of multi-published and successful romance writers to share insights about their craft. From plotting or writing by the seat of your pants,  keeping readers in suspense, packing an emotional punch, to writing dialogue and coping with editing and revisions…. This book has it all.

There’s no “right” way or “wrong” way. There’s just heaps of insights and sharing secrets and “here’s what worked for me!”.

It’s simply brilliant and inspiring and for me, such a huge relief to know that how I write is “okay”. It may not be how others do it, but it’s my process, and it’s still a work in process. Thoroughly recommended!

  1. Woah Maree – you said this a quiet reading month? Holy heck, what is a good reading month? LOL. I’ve got Heart & Craft on my TBR pile (seems like that’s where all my books are living) and can’t wait to get stuck into its wisdom. It was a great book launch in Brisbane.

    • Maree says:

      Hey, Eleni,

A good reading month would be about 20 books — I read fast, LOL. And scarily enough, it seems to be genetic, because my 13 yo daughter can get through a book in a day as well!

Oh and do put Heart & Craft at the top of your TBR pile. It’s truly wonderful. I got so much out of it and I’m sure there’ll be some little gems that’ll give you an “aha!” moment, too.

      • Oh my goodness…would love to be able to read like that. I used to long ago but darn CFS doesn’t let me read into the night as I once did. So a great reading month for me is 10 books.

So glad to hear your daughter is a prolific reader too. I got my love of reading from my mum too.

As for Heart & Craft, it will be snippet read :) Thanks, I’m sure I will have many ‘aha’ moments from it.
