Even Demons Get The Blues

By Maree Anderson
Rezon was the Demon King’s lieutenant for four thousand years but even the most badass Demon in Hell gets jaded, so Rez joined the Beguilers. Only trouble is now he’s been beguiled by Leisa, a tormented human woman who’s captured his heart.
When Leisa picks up one loser too many, Rezon’s provoked into whisking her off to his lair to show her what a real man—uh, make that Demon!—can do for her.
Leisa’s been tagged by a Destroyer and her soul is forfeit, so when she inadvertently shatters Rez’s defenses and bonds with him there’ll be Hell to pay.

EVEN DEMONS GET THE BLUES
Rezon has been watching her for a year. He knew it was wrong to watch her through his mirror but he just couldn’t help himself. There is just something about Leisa that draws him to her even though they’ve never met.
Leisa is in a downward spiral. She had been for the past few years. She’d go to a bar, pick-up some guy who was usually a loser, have sex and pass out. She just didn’t care. She was so filled with self-hatred that she was becoming self destructive.
Finally, after way overstepping his boundaries as a Beguiler demon, Rezon decides he has to have Leisa. Things don’t go as planned when Rezon finds that he can’t wipe Leisa’s memories and he’s being called on the carpet by his King. The King has advice for Rezon but should he take it?
Leisa’s problems started when another demon added her to his quota and Rezon learns that she’s scheduled to die soon. He doesn’t want that to happen but he’s not sure if he can stop it. On the other hand, Rezon has a special birthday coming up himself and there’s no telling what will happen to him. Is there any possible way that they could both end up alive and well?
Death, demons and unexpected happenings make up this delightful romantic comedy. Enter into a world where there is a quota to get souls, legions with different duties, several types of demons and behind the scene maneuvers. They may look human but they’re not.
Most of the characters may have been demons but they each had their own personalities and specialties. Quick descriptions of each character gave you immediate insight into their qualities and weather they were good guys, bad guys or somewhere in between. There were no set this is what demons do, each demon was unique. Leisa came across as a lovable but troubled human. The King was trying to be as good a friend as a demon could be to Rezon but he still had to cover his butt too! Rezon is an old and powerful demon who is feeling things that he never had in his long life. Even the secondary characters come across as likable and interesting.
I really loved this story. It was packed full of sex, sin, twists and turns, The humor that was found frequently gave a very light hearted feel to this story. The characters were well written and the ending a surprise. I just wanted to keep reading and wished this story would keep going. I can’t wait to see where book 2 goes!
As this is a fairly short book, it’s the perfect size for a lazy afternoon.

EVEN DEMONS GET THE BLUES

Dakota’s Review: Who would have thought a bad ass demon could fall in love, let alone get the blues? Evidently, Maree Anderson! In Even Demons Get the Blues, Rez finds himself falling in love with a human. I was immediately skeptical but as the story unfolded, I found myself rooting for Rez to beat the odds and be able to claim Leisa. While I was expecting more resistance from Rez it was obvious he was still a bad ass demon when it came to protecting the love of his life.
Along with the wonderful hero and heroine, I found myself wanting to know more about Asmodeus, the King of Demons. Ms. Anderson’s creation of this demon king has me hoping she’s going to give him his own book. Maybe if I beg? I definitely look forward to reading and reviewing the next book in this new series by Ms. Anderson. Especially if I get to see more of the yummy Asmodeus.

EVEN DEMONS GET THE BLUES
For the past year Rezon, the last of the Drakon and a Beguiler Demon, has been secretly watching a human female through a bespelled mirror. Rezon knows that he is obsessed with the human but he can’t stop watching her and wanting her.
Every weekend Leisa goes out to a sleazy bar, intentionally gets drunk and picks up a stranger for the night. When she wakes up Leisa can barely remember where she is, how she got there, and what the guy’s name is. Leisa spends her free time torturing herself by acting like a tramp because of one horrible night.
Against the advice of his one friend, the Demon King Asmodeus, Rezon seeks out Leisa. It is destiny that has finally brought Rezon and Leisa together – now it’s up to them to make it matter when all their secrets are laid bare.
Unique and witty, Even Demons Get the Blues is devious entertainment. Rezon and Asmodeus are deliciously dark and memorable while it takes some time to warm up to Leisa, mainly because readers don’t know why she’s suffering for quite awhile. It’s the guys who make Even Demons Get the Blues so much fun with their wily banter. Even Demons Get the Blues is an original, sensual page turner.

EVEN DEMONS GET THE BLUES

For thousands of years, Rezon was the demon king Asmodeus’s general and right hand. Now, by his own choice, Rez is serving as a Beguiler demon (think incubus). Unfortunately for Rez, he’s become obsessed with Leisa, a human woman. Leisa’s self-esteem has been deeply damaged by her past, but instead of further corrupting her, Rez wants to help her heal. Too bad demons aren’t supposed to view humans as anything other than playthings used to help meet demonic corruption quotas…
Anderson drew me into her well-written tale, and even within the confines of novella length, she created vivid characters that I came to care about. I would have liked a bit more soul-searching from both Rez and Leisa in the last half of the book, but it definitely worked as is. Also, kudos to Anderson for neatly balancing the steam-to-story ratio and not overwhelming either with the other!
If you enjoy fast-paced, clever, and steamy paranormal romance, I think that you’ll enjoy Even Demons Get the Blues as much as I did. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from Maree Anderson!

EVEN DEMONS GET THE BLUES
![]()
Nicely written paranormal novella about a demon who falls for a human. As a Demon on earth it is Rez’s job to send good little girls a stray, but when he meets the female of his dreams he decides to save her rather than see her make her way to hell.
Leisa has spent every Saturday for the past year getting drunk and picking up one loser after another in an effort to forget her past. When her next Saturday night pick-up turns out to be a demon, all Hell breaks loose.
Paranormal books are so fun to read, especially when there are so many imaginative authors like Maree Anderson writing them. This books gives readers a chance to step out of the box and into the world of Demons. Not bad for an afternoon of entertainment.

EVEN DEMONS GET THE BLUES
![]()
Rezon, a Beguiler demon and last of the Drakons, has a teeny tiny obsession with a human named Leisa. His mirror is bespelled to show her upon his command, and the obsessed masochist that he is, he can’t quit looking. Every time it’s the same: Leisa getting ready to troll for a sleazy man to temporary fill her emptiness. Every time Rez’s reaction is the same: the need to kill the worthless man who touched her. Rez finally decides enough is enough; if she’s going to mess around, it may as well be with him.
A nasty surprise waits for Rez in the human world. Leisa has been marked by another demon and her soul is set to be collected. The only way to save her, and essentially him, is to trap the demon and vanquish it. That would be fine if Rez were at full capacity, but since meeting Leisa, he hasn’t been the same demon. Without his powers, Leisa and Rez must work together to save her soul or there will be hell to pay.
Even though she changed bed partners like I change razors, Leisa was a likable character with whom I instantly connected. She’s faced with some pretty hard truths and is forced to accept the fact that in a few days, she may be burning in Hell. Instead of cowering or moping, she tackles the problem head on and does what she has to in order to save her hide. The only part where I thought she really broke character was when she sauntered into the living room naked when Rez was having “guests”. It seemed like an excuse to get Rez jealous rather than something her character would do.
Even Demons Get the Blues by Maree Anderson was an adorable love story full of squishy demons and snarky humans that I give 3.5 tombstones. It was enjoyable and held my attention, but the constant switch from proper language to slang distracted me. One minute a character would be referring to a “fortnight” and the next would sound like a teenager. Strange verbiage aside, I highly recommend this story if you’re looking for something light and sexy.

Louise Delamore:
I thoroughly enjoyed this novella from Red Sage Publishing by a debut New Zealand writer.
The demon Rezon is obsessed with Leisa, a tormented human woman. When Leisa picks up one loser too many, Rezon’s provoked into whisking her off to his lair to show her what a real man—uh, make that Demon!—can do for her. Then the trouble really starts… Lesia’s soul’s in jeopardy.
Maree’s writing is smooth and her dialogue believable, I often found myself with a smile on my face. The characters are convincing and sympathetic. You can understand what drives Leisa to behave the way she does; and Rezon is clearly an evil demon Lord while at the same time having a chink in his armour that lets in love.
NB: genre – erotic romance. To be honest erotic romances are not my usual fare but Maree never loses sight of the story – I really wanted to know how it ended and how the characters resolved their problems.

“I literally just finished reading Even Demons Get the Blues and had to tell you that I loved it! Rez is a completely delicious hero, and I loved how Leisa found her backbone and then some. You also created some great secondary characters, and I really enjoyed the humor and banter. It was a great mix and a great read!”
